Dowsing’s jams are tailor-made for those long drives. Anthemic shouts, rolling rhythms, and a song that is literally called “Driving” help make All I Could Find Was You the perfect tunes for your next road trip. The six songs on their latest 7” are songs of exploration and wonder, which is fitting given the optimistic pop punk sounds. Here are my two favorite songs from the album and an interview with the band.
Review
“Driving”
It starts off slow with a pointed guitar riff and then slowly picks up until it finally drives. The engine revs and the shouting starts. Head banging bouncy goodness is at the heart of this one. The bass zooms back and forth the whole song and the lyrics are shouted at you. However, “Driving” isn’t jarring—it’s relaxing.
“Amateur Cartography”
With a punchy fill and soaring guitar, it begins. Then it settles into to the verse and the singing starts. Playful, childish vocals mirror the lyrics, which describe traveling and zany times!!! The song peaks with the perfect shout along line, “Getting wasted with my friends in a basement with some bands that we don’t even know from Tennessee!”

Interview
Where does the name come from?
Gooey, Erik and Delia were walking around the city one day, and Goo exclaimed that we had to start a band with the name “Dowsing”. We of course obliged. And then they got pizza.
How do you write songs?
Erik usually writes lyrics and metal riffs and then during practice we convert them into real emo bangers.
What are some of your favorite artists?
We adore The Weakerthans, The Replacements, Superchunk, Sugar Ray and countless others.
How did you form?
The fateful pizza day described above marked Dowsing’s conception.
What are your future plans for touring/releases?
We recorded our debut LP, called It’s Still Pretty Terrible, and we are about to release a split with our buddies in Parker. Both releases will be pressed on vinyl on Count Your Lucky Stars! Summer Tour with Brave Bird to follow.
