The Octopus Project is an Austin-based teenager of astounding ability. At 13 years old, the band has released four studio albums since their formation in 1999. Their blend of good ol’ fashioned instruments with digital technology and their openness to experimentation has allowed the band to brand their own style of indietronica and create ingenuous instrumental soundscapes that are both catchy and atmospheric.
Houston band Wild Moccasins exhibits a bouncy indie rock sound that’s given life by their intertwining male/female vocals and their frenzied-yet-precise instrumentation. At the other end of the spectrum is Mystery Skulls, a band native to Dallas that employs heavy production to create dense, dance-y electronica.
Aside from all being Texas-based bands, these three have in common the ability to put on extremely fun live shows. Starting with Mystery Skulls’ heavy electronica, followed by Wild Moccasins’ upbeat and all-over-the-place indie, and ending with The Octopus Project’s sound along with their penchant for entertaining videos and art (as evidenced at their critically-lauded SXSW performance), this show promises to be a pretty great one.
Tickets are available on Granada’s website for a nice price of $13 until the show date. Get yourself one or just show up! Central Track is also having it’s launch party at the Granada Theater that night. Either way: great music, fun crowd, party on.
