Although it may seem redundant, the exclamation point at the end of Los Campesinos! name is definitely worth noting, especially in live shows. The band has been the Janus of modern indie pop, embracing not only upbeat and happy but also dark and morose with the same care and quality. Shows are, however, unanimously full of excitement, with plenty of opportunity to sing along uproariously and clap and get that moderate-level workout you need on a Wednesday night (or as we’d like to call it, the Radio UTD way to do things).
The band has been keen to playing classics all the way back from Hold On Now, Youngster as well as the newer gems from their most recent LP, Hello Sadness. All the joyous music also comes with a side of that rare brand of Welsh humor from Los Campesinos! members cavorting happily with the crowd. This band that cites Modest Mouse, Broken Social Scene, Joy Division, obsession with death, and football as their influences will certainly have you in tremors of joy, if not at least tapping your feet, not long into their setlist.
