French post-rock/bliss pop/cosmic electronica band M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) has been making dreamy, epic, ethereal sound-scapes of celestial formations since their first self-titled album release in 2001. Their music has been described as nu gaze, dream pop, megalithic alt. pop and a few other monikers for genres that were probably made up to specifically describe M83’s hard-to-pin down style.
Gonzalez established himself as a powerful presence in the electronica world in 2003 with his second album, Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, exhibiting adroit use of layered vocals, plush synth lines and hazy but epochal themes. Gonzales’ latest release, the double-album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, has garnered critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and SPIN and has enjoyed radio-play world-wide.
