Portland Oregon’s Starfucker (STRFKR) has always caught flak for their inaccessible name. Started in 2007 by Portland native Josh Hodges, their melancholy vocals layered over incredibly catchy pop hooks have rocketed the band to stardom, something that still baffles Hodges. He says he started with the name Starfucker to see how far he could go “with a stupid name like that”, a figurative middle-finger at the music industry and success in general. Then, to STRFKR’s surprise, they became extremely successful. The name stuck, and the band’s live-shows are now famous for their “sweaty, dance-party atmosphere”. Just try to resist tapping your foot to “Medicine” or “Julius.”
