I first saw Robert Cody Maxwell when he hosted a David Mayfield house concert out in Oak Cliff. He and his band, The Gentlemen Vain, did the honor of opening the show and backing the main act for the last song of the night. Maxwell brought a new energy and sound to old country styles, taking influence from new, groundbreaking musicians like The Avett Brothers (with a tattoo inspired by Emotionalism to show for it), Dawes and the staples of country music that you could hear walking through the Country Music Hall of Fame.
On the rooftop of PS4 with the iconic UTD cranes in the background, he performed two new, unrecorded songs for us and we’re excited to share them with you for our inaugural local music session.
